I pulled my bathroom window closed last night and the handle came off in my hand. The windows have been in about 14-15 years and are the double glazed pvc type.

Do I have to go back to the company who installed the windows, i hope not because i am pretty sure they have gone bust.

Can i just replace the handle?

Hi there,

You can just replace the handle.

It doesn't matter if your window company has gone bust, you can replace it with a similar looking one. All the dimensions should be the same i.e:

Distance between screw holes: 43mm
Thickness of spindle: 7mm.

You will need to measure how far the spindle sticks out from the back of your handle and order the replacement with the same spindle length.

The handles are only held in with 2 screws one of them may be hidden behind a cover plate.

It is an easy job to do yourself. There are hardware companies selling online now, check out the following link https://www.upvc-hardware.co.uk/handles
I can recommend them from first hand use.

You could call somebody out to do the repair but it is likely to cost at least £40 more to fit the handle.
