I have just moved into a house and there are 2 upvc windows in my bedroom. On one window the window is shut but when you try to open it or anything the handle comes off in your hand, and nothing will work the mechanism. On the other window it was open when i moved in. when i tried to shut it i realised the handle would only move from 3 o'clock to 2 o'clock and no further like it was jammed or something so could not get into shut position. Having spoken to the previous owner i was told force would shut it. I managed to get the handle up to 12 o'clock but the window will not shut as the bolt things (i'm not sure of their names) will not budge. The handle now just moves about and feels completely broken/unattached to what its meant too be. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me how simple/expensive it will be to get someone to fix it, or if there is anything simple i could try myself?
Hope you can help. Thanks :)

Look in your yellow pages or yell.com under "double glazing repairs" if you're wanting somebody to repair it for you. The cost is likely to be between £50 and £80 per window.

Alternatively you can replace the handles and locks yourself by buying them online:

https://www.upvc-hardware.co.uk/locks-gearing/espagnolette-upvc-window-locks

https://www.upvc-hardware.co.uk/handles/espag-upvc-window-handles

You will need to spend some time on these sorts of websites reading information which will help you identify what you need.

Many homeowners are able to undertake this sort of job but it depends how capable you are at DIY.
