uPVC windows not closing properly

Hi Guys,

Our PVC double glazing windows do not close properly and have not since they were installed about 6 years ago. The result is that there is a gap between window frame and main frame seal that allows a serious draught in. I have managed to force the window closed so the seal is pressed thereby reducing the draught but this requires me standing in the front garden and pressing on the pane.

Would it be possible to change where the window hinges are screwed on the main frame to see if this reduces the draught gap? Is this a messy business?

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks,
/Shane.

You could try adjusting the cam sliders on the handle side of the window. By inserting an allan key into each cam and turing it slightly, because it is eccentric it will vary the compression the cams have with the keeps and will help pull in the pvc window. If the gap is on the hinge part of the window then it does sound like the wrong thickness of rubber gasket has been used as it is unlikely the hinges have been fitted in the wrong position. This is because the hinges usually fit into channels in the plastic frame and sash before they are screwed in place.

P.S the cams are the little lugs that slide on the edge of the window when the handle is turned.

hope this is of some help. :)
