I have a (horizontal opening) uPVC bathroom window with sheared rivet heads on both sides. The hinges are the normal 'slider'type. I have lost all the rivet heads on one side and one of the three on the other. Can the rivet remaining 'tails be drilled out easily or should I attempt to use self-tappers close to the existing holes in the UPVC? Ány suggestions gratefully received! Many Thanks!

The best solution is to put screws into the plastic next to whats left of the rivets. If this isn't possible then drill or knock into the window the remains of the rivet and re-rivet the window in place.

This is a common problem because the hinges are made of steel and the rivets are aluminium, the two metals react together with the aid of moisture in the air and the aluminium corrodes. Thats why fitting steel screws is a better option.
